Leaders at Davos see a global economy moving toward a new normal

  • Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank, said consumption, trade and inflation began to normalize last year.

  • While the three trends Lagarde identified represent a “normalization,” she said: “It is not normality that we are heading to” in 2024.

  • Germany’s Minister of Finance Christian Lindner characterized the current economic situation as a “new normal.”

  • Salad and Go wants to provide a healthier, cheap fast-food option with its $7 salads and wraps.

  • Founded in 2013, the salad chain is now run by former Wingstop CEO Charlie Morrison.

  • Morrison said the chain has expansion plans that could mean thousands of locations eventually.

  • The Biden administration announced Friday it would forgive $4.9 billion in student debt for 73,600 borrowers.

  • The relief is a result of the U.S. Department of Education’s fixes to its income-driven repayment plans and Public Service Loan Forgiveness program.


Super Micro shares soar 36% to record on uplifting preliminary results

  • Super Micro shares soared to an all-time high Friday, after the company reported higher-than-expected revenue in a preliminary earnings report.

  • The company said revenue for the quarter that ended in December will be $3.6 billion to $3.65 billion, above the $3.06 billion analysts expected.

  • Super Micro’s stock jumped almost 250% last year.


Houthis embrace ‘direct confrontation’ with U.S. as Biden admits airstrikes aren’t working

  • The U.S. carried out its fifth airstrike against Houthi targets in Yemen late Thursday night.

  • The Iran-backed rebel group within hours launched two anti-ship ballistic missiles at a U.S.-owned tanker.

  • The Houthis say their campaign is in response to Israel’s bombardment of the Gaza Strip and U.S. support for it.
